Check with your specific league as to what constitutes a strike. In many ASA slow pitch leagues, a strike must arch between 6' and 12' and land within three feet behind the plate. A ball that hits the plate is not considered a strike. The zone that is mentioned above is primarily for baseball and fast-pitch softball since those balls will have a more straight trajectory, whereas the slow-pitch softball will be coming down at an angle and this zone may not be accurate. Ultimately, the umpire will determine what is a strike and what is a ball, so you may need to adjust to how they are calling balls and strikes.

The average 10 yr old kid throws the ball 45MPH. About 33% of pitchers this age can throw the ball 45-50MPH and about 13% can throw the ball 51-55. About 1 kid in a million can throw the ball 60MPH. If your kid can throw more then 48MPH he is considered above average.

Try a 'shuttle'. Have half the team stand in a line (single file) on one side of half the court and one on the other. (You only need one side of the net for this) The players should be facing each other, one behind another. (Make sure there is a space between them large enough for a high volley or a bump. Give the ball to one player in the front of one line and get them to pass it to the person across from him/her. The person then runs to the back of the line she was passing to the shuttle continues. Follow your ball!

They are practically the same. I've played both, the only difference is the pitching, the size of the ball, the size of the bats, and if you are playing for leagues or school then boys play baseball and girls play softball.

The softball season officially begins February 1st. You cannot practice or hold try-outs before this time. You can condition before this date, but you are not to handle any softball gear such as bats, gloves, or softballs.

Remove pads and straps as long as possible, while taking note of how they were threaded.. Hand wash with mild detergent, rinse well. Allow to dry, reassemble. If straps don't come out they can be washed in place just not so thoroughly. I usually stick the straps and pads in a sock, and send it through the washing machine at setting warm.

The great thing about softball is you can be any height. Tall players can jump for balls heading over their heads easier, but short players can duck under the tag and are generally faster. There is no set height for softball

The core rating on a softball refers to the bounce. For example, hold a core .44 in one hand a .47 in the other and drop-em. The core .47 will bounce higher. The major difference in the balls is the compression rating. The higher the compression, the harder the ball. Hard ball = more distance. Standard fastpitch is core .47, compression 375.

In fastpitch softball you can either do a straight steal or a delayed steal. A straight steal is when you take off running for the next base as soon as the pitcher releases the ball. A delayed steal is when you lead off the base like you would any other pitch, but a little farther. When the catch throws the ball back to the pitcher you take off running to the next base. This is successful because it confuses the defense, especially if they are not paying attention to you. A lot of times you can steal a base using a delayed steal without them even getting the chance to throw the ball before you get to the base.

To steal home in baseball is 100% completely legal. More than likely, you wouldn't steal home unless it's on a squeeze or it's 2 outs, bases loaded, and there is a full count on the batter. One of the most common, and obvious, situations to steal home, is whenever there is a passed ball... make sure the backstop is large enough to ensure you being safe.

If you fake to an empty base it's a balk. If you attempt to do anything except pitch the ball while on the rubber, it's probably a balk (a particularly sneaky left-handed pitcher may be able to get away with this however).

Foul-tip Rule 2.00 see also; Strike (g) and 6.05(b) There is nothing "FOUL" about a foul-tip. It is a strike and the ball is alive. A foul-tip is the same as a swing and a miss. To be a foul-tip, by rule, the ball must go sharp and direct from the bat to the catcher's hand or glove AND BE CAUGHT. Confusion arises on this because people commonly call any ball that is tipped or nicked a foul-tip. It is not a foul-tip, by rule, unless the nicked or tipped ball is caught. If it is not caught, it is simply a foul-ball. A foul-ball is a dead ball. A foul-tip (a legally caught nick) is a live ball strike, just like a swing and a miss. Although the distance may vary between leagues and associations, the pitching distance in 10 and under modified or fastpitch softball is usually accepted to be 35 feet. This distance has changed in some national associations over the past few years, and you may find anything from 34-36 feet. This is measured from the back point of the WHITE part of homeplate (not the black part) to the front-middle of the pitching rubber.

No, softball is about the same as baseball. Softball players use bigger balls; then baseball, to give more speed and curve to the ball. Under hand is a more natural way to throw, but because of the size of the ball softball is the same as baseball. SoftballFastpitch softball is very challenging, pitches may be slower ( 75 mph is about the max) but they are throwing from 40 feet which translates to over 100 mph in baseball. The bases are closer so stealing is common. Yes, because the pitcher has to do a perfect windup, perfect snap, perfect release point, and perfect placement for her pitch to be a strike. Also, the mound is farther awayin softball than in baseball. The balls are bigger and heavier, so they do not go as far when hit as baseballs do. The bases are closer together, which make stealing common, and you have to throw the ball really fast and accurately to get the runner out before she touches the plate. So yes, I would say it is more challenging. Softball softball may seem very similar to baseball at a young age but as you get into high school level and beyond its a lot different. It wouldn't be right to say that either baseball or softball are more or less challenging then the other. That would be like asking is swimming as challening as football, there just isn't a comparison. i know bc i live in a family with 4 baseball players who always try to tell me softball is easy and its not but i know they couldn't play softball very well at my level and i know that i wouldn't be able to take their spot on the baseball team. I do want to clear one thing up though, just bc we use a bigger and brighter ball does not mean its any easier!

It depends if you are sliding a lot but you should because it gives more protection.
