Do volleyball knee pads have more cushion than softball knee pads?

yeahh, they have alot more padding that softball knee pads. volleyball players have to be protected while their diving onto their knees and such. softball players (mostly only the younger ones wear knee pads) dont need as much padding on their knees because although they dive and slide, it is usually not onto their knees. gym floors are also alot harder and hurt worse than the ground (i know from experience! lol)

What is a time play in softball?

The best example I can give of a 'timed play' is when the pitcher attempts to pick off a runner at second base. The catcher will give a signal, maybe touching his mask or pounding his fist in his glove. This signal means that at the count of two the second baseman or shortstop, whoever has the responsibility of covering the bag, will start moving towards second base and at the count of four, the pitcher will whirl around and throw to second in an attempt to pick off the runner. The pitcher cannot turn around and see that a runner is taking a big lead off of second base and attempt to pick the runner off because the runner will head back to second as soon as he sees the pitcher looking at him. So, a 'timed play' is executed ... the shortstop/second baseman sneaks to the base behind the runner's back in the hope that the runner does not notice and the pitcher suddenly whirls around and throws in the hopes that he catches the base runner off guard.

What are the basic skills in softball and its meaning?

The basic skills in softball are catching, throwing, hitting and base running. The strategies would depend on the coach but what every player should know is the different game situations during a softball game and the strategy would be the coach's way of playing each situation. The situations may be a man on 1st, 2nd or 3rd, others would be runners on multiply bases like runners on 1st & 2nd, 1st & 3rd, 2nd & 3rd or full bases.

You should know when to execute a force play or tag play or where to throw the ball.

How do you become a professional softball player?

This is going to seem very basic but: PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. No matter what position you play, you won't be able to play D1 unless you can do it in your sleep. Next, think about what D1 level you want to go: there are definitely the cream of the crop schools (sports-wise) and ones that usually come in last each year, but are still in the division one level. But you just have to have the heart to really want to play and want to dedicate all of your extra time to making yourself the best player they have seen. You need to be a necessity to their team. If they already have five girls who can play shortstop and you're better than two of them, they probably won't want you because they know you're not necessary for their team to win. You need to have game smarts as well as being physically fit. All of this comes with experience, which a D1 school will definitely want. Also, the thing with D1 sports is they recruit very hard for their teams. They will have walk-on try-outs, but that's after they've gone out of their way to see other girls play.

Pretty much, keep your head high, be a team player, and know your stuff. You have to be able to field a ball perfectly 99 times out of 100 and be able to hit. If you're a pitcher you must have at least three pitches that work for you 100% of the time where you can hit any single spot you're told to hit.

It will be hard work & take a lot of dedication, but if it is what you want, it is definitely doable.

What physical or mental activities are included in softball coaching?

You must teach the basics. The picth, the way you throw, hold, and catch the ball. Some physical activtes are having the players run all bases, or make a feild trip to the batting cages. Be creative: find somthing fun and creative to get the players ready to play. i guess some mental actives are having your team imagine hitting a home run on the last inning of a 9-9 game right before a accual game

You may be wondering what the difference is among a slowpitch softball bat, a fastpitch softball bat and a regular baseball bat. The difference is in the technology of designing the bat. The length, weight and barrel diameter, among other features, are the main differences. Manufacturers have determined the size and weight that are optimal for hitting a slowpitch softball versus fastpitch, and have designed them accordingly.

How do you hit home runs in slow pitch softball?

Form is the key to success. You will see much smaller players hit farther than there larger peers because they have proper form. What is proper form you may ask. In softball I would recommend you have your legs a little more than should width apart. A little bend in the knees but not much. Hands should be relaxed on the bat. I prefer to keep my elbows up so I do not drop them when I swing. You want to swing up at the same angle the balls is coming towards you. Do not drop your elbows! You top hand should come off of the bat as you hit which creates a whip like action with the bat. This will send the ball over the fence.
