Did a batter ever hit the hide off of the ball?
I did that during a neighborhood pick-up game when I was a kid, but we were using a really old ball and the stitching was already half gone. Hey, it was the only ball we had! But I've never heard of it happening in an organized game, MLB down to Tee-Ball.
The run does not count. This is a force out, not a "time" play. The tag by SS on runner going to 3rd is still a force. Regardless, the throw to 2nd is force out for the 3rd out. No run can score on a play in which the 3rd out is a force out. The time when the runner touches home is irrelevant. If the 3rd out was a "tag" play (not a force), then the run would count since the runner touched home before the 3rd out.
What is batting order for softball games?
1 - The leadoff hitter is a player who can get on base. Preferably with speed so they can steal second to be driven in by the power-hitters coming up.
2 - Must be a good contact hitter. Too much power from the number two hitter is rare.
3 - A combination of contact/power. Generally the best all-around hitter. A player who can hit a fair amount of home runs with a good .300 batting average.
4 (Clean up) - The most powerful hitter, who can really drive the ball for a good amount of homers/doubles.
5 - Should possess decent power. Not as much as #4, but should be able to get the job done if the clean up hitter can't.
6 - The last line of defense before the weaker #7 and #8 batters get up.
7, 8 - Generally the weakest hitters on the team.
9 - One of the most important hitters in the line up. Generally, these guys are the second fastest on the team and can hit well. Not exactly home runs, but decent base hits. This way, if they can get on, then you have the top of the line up to drive him in. However, in a league that does not use a designated hitter, such as the National League, the pitcher will hit in this position, as he is usually the worst hitter on the team (as he will only play once every five games and focuses on pitching.) The pitcher will usually bunt
** It should be noted that this is all a matter of opinion and personal strategy from the manager. Anyone who has ever seen a Tony LaRussa lineup card could attest to this. The above is a "reference point" for someone to start with. I dont exactly agree with what was said about the #9 batter (but like i said before it is all personal preference)
Who does the left fielder cover in softball?

What is a good fastpitch softball catchers gear brand?
My catcher gear last year was Under Armour.
Under Armour is the best catcher gear money can buy. All the other brands doesn't protect the chest as well. The Under Armour chest piece is broader on the shoulders and has more padding. I suggest the Under Armour catcher gear.
What size softball is used in high school?
High school softballs ar called 14's. They are the regulation size of ball for any level of competition above 14 and under. You can buy them at any sporting goods store, i would suggest the leather balls, they last longer and you can get a better grip in them.
(Rawlings?) stopped in 1999 and moved to China, but a buddy told me that they still make them in Haiti just for the major leagues, not for sale to the public,
How can you cut a softball in half?
A good yet safe way to cut a tennis ball in half would be to use a hack saw, and just about any blade would be good. Those who know tools would probably laugh. Hack saws weren't really built to cut tennis balls in half. But the hack saw could be used by someone who doesn't have a lot of skill and experience at cutting things and it would still get the job done with relative safety. And safety, by the way, is of paramount importance if one wants to cut anything in half. Or one ends up making an unscheduled trip to the emergency room. (That begs another question: are there such things as *scheduled* trips to the emergency room?) Be safe. Have fun. In that order.
What infield position should your best athlete play in softball?
Short stop and third base are probably the most difficult, excluding the pitcher and catcher. The shortstop gets the most action and has the most ground to cover, while the third baseman has the hot corner. This is where many very hard hit balls are hit.
Who wrote the first rules for softball?
Softball was invented in 1887. There probably isn't a definite date on when the first regulation was created but (i know it is common sense to run from home to first but) having to run a certain direction on the bases is a rule (technically) so the first rules would have had to have been created the day softball was invented, but those said rules are modified every year to ensure our safety.
What is the average overhand throwing speed in softball for a 14u player?
Well my friend is 12 and she throws in a 14u team...she throws high 40 like 49. If she keeps her pitches low they would go faster and she got up to 54ish mph the last time she was times. If she wants to get faster a good drill is to do your windmill motion three times. On the third time release the ball. It helps if you do about ten a day. Just saying my 12 year old friend doesn't do that drill to often, but she says it helps a lot, and it may feel weird the first few times you do this drill.
What happens when a baserunner is hit by a thrown ball?
When a baserunner is hit by a thrown ball, the ball is in play. The one exception is if the baserunner is called out for interfering with the throw. The most common such is when a baserunner runs in fair territory towards first base, and gets hit by a throw. In that case the runner is out, the ball is dead, and all other runners must return to their previous bases. Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver once said that if when a pitcher fields a bunt he sees the runner running in fair territory, he should throw the ball into that player's back, getting the out and preventing anybody from advancing on the attempted sacrifice. A batter running to first should run in foul territory, otherwise he risks getting called out if he's hit by a throw. Another case of interference is if the baserunner is deemed to have intentionally moved into the throw. In a famous case from the 1978 World Series, Yankee great Reggie Jackson was forced out at second and then was hit by the throw to first. The Dodgers argued that Jackson deliberately swung his hip into the ball. Certainly Jackson made no effort to avoid the throw. However interference was not called, so Jackson successfully broke up the double play. Runners going from first to second on ground balls to first often attempt to run into the path the first baseman would use to throw to second. Chase Utley did this successfully in an April 2008 game against the Mets. First baseman Carlos Delgado's throw hit Utley in the back (Delgado was charged with a throwing error), all runners were safe, and the play ultimately led to the Phillies' victory.
Who developed the outdoor version of softball and who was he a fireman for?
Lewis Rober, Sr. used the empty lot next to his firehouse to create a softball diamond. He first thought of it because he needed something to keep his firemen busy. He developed the game completely separately than George Hancock, probably. However, softball was first move outdoors by George Hancock, not Lewis Rober.
How do you know what size softball glove to get?
It is hard to purchase something like a baseball glove online, you don't know how it feels.
I suggest you shop around at the local sporting goods stores and find the one you really like, it is appropriate for your position, age, and price range. Then go back and find the same glove online.
The main goal being getting a better price, just remember to add shipping onto whatever price there is, so a site with free shipping and a lower price would be the best.
Every glove manufacturer makes a wide range of glove options, I recommend not spending a bundle until you have advanced to a point where you intend to take your sport into the high school and collegiate level, or if you are in a traveling competitive league.
If you are going to drop 2-300 on a glove you should be done with most growth spurts and be prepared to keep it in good shape for several seasons, gloves need to be oiled, and restitched when needed, if you do this a really good glove will last you many years.

Can a manager substitute a pitcher after he has thrown a pitch to a batter?
Yes, if the batter was retired with that 1 pitch or got on base or was hit by the pitch. In other words if that batter is no longer up or if this was not the 1st batter the pitcher has faced and the pitcher threw a strike or a ball then the manager could take him out or if the pitcher suffered an injury with that one pitch. If the pitcher comes into a game and throws only one pitch and the batter is still up and there is no injury to the pitcher, then the pitcher must pitch to the batter till he is retired or reaches base on a hit, walk, error, fielders choice, etc.

Who is the best male slow pitch softball player of all time?
There's a guy by the name of Hank Williams, from the little town of Triton Newfoundland, which is an island just off of Canada. He was rank 1st in Canada at one point, and even went on to be named the athlete of the year in the Triton/Britron area, a feat that has not yet been repeated. Local lore states that the man hit three home runs, at three up at bats, to put his team ahead by one in the final three innings of the game.
I would have to disagree and say Jeff Hall is the best slow pitch softball player of all time.
Rick " The Crusher" Scherr played in 20 Men's Major World Series. He is in the ASA and USSSA Hall of Fame. Hit .700 in his career, and was the all-time home run leader when he retired. Ditto for Big Bruce Meade. He had the longest home run ever, pre-juiced bats, at over 500 feet. Rick Weiterman is in 4 softball hall of fames. Played for The Milwaukee Schlitz in the old pro league, Steele's Sports " Men of Steele ", and Ritches Superior in the Men's Majors. Career batting average in competition was just over .750. All these guys played at the highest levels of the sport for more than 25 years. Some of them are still playing today in their 50's. Jeff Hall is great, and if he stays around for a while he will be in the conversation. Oh yeah, Weiterman was one of the games greatest pitchers.
How much money does a softball coach make?
It all depends on where you go, what level, and what kind of shape the program was in that you've inherited. Depending on how successful the school has been in this sport they may put more money up to continue the winning tradition. At a DIII job or a NAIA job I would say around what a professor makes and then a little extra depending on the booster clubs. Once you get into DI (division 1) that's where the money greatly varies. I know the Baylor coach was getting paid somewhere around $90,000 from the school and not counting anything else from the booster clubs, but his salary has greatly increased ever since his success of bringing them deep into the tournament. I'd Google different divisions and find their averages.
