How does fraternity work?

The origin of the college fraternity dates back to December 5, 1776 with the creation of Phi Beta Kappa. Originally a secret society, it later changed in the 1830's to become an honorary fraternity. In the early 1820's, several other fraternities were created, all utilized Greek letters, displayed a badge, had a ritual and were secret societies. By the turn of the century, 40 fraternities were in existence through out the North America. Since 1900 the development of fraternities has been so rapid that the 20th century organizations outnumber those established previously. World War's I & II were a great strain on the fraternity system. Most college aged men were fighting overseas and many chapters closed. At the end of WW II, and largely because of the GI Bill, the "Golden Age" of Fraternities started as a result of the large influx of men into college. Universities with 40 fraternities, each with 50-150 men were not uncommon. The sixties and seventies were a tough period for fraternities as the youth of those eras questioned the "establishment" — fraternities were seen as part of this "establishment." Today, college fraternities have returned to their roots. They exist to provide a "home away from home", encourage high scholastic achievement, foster community spirit, and teach much needed leadership skills.

What is Zeta Tau Alpha's ritual?

It is a closed ritual known only to the brothers of Lambda Chi Alpha. It is the most complex and well thought out ritual planned by any college fraternity. Many people try to get ahold of it and some think they have seen it online. I have the entire ritual book in my possession right now, but what it contains is reserved for me and the other brothers. If you want to see then try and get a bid. Maybe.... just maybe.... you will make it through.

What is fraternity and sorority?

Strictly speaking, a fraternity is a "brotherhood." In the United States, on colleges campuses, fraternities are organizations that young men join, in which they live together in a house close to campus - acceptance of a newcomer into a fraternity is frequently dependent on successful completion of "initiation rites," also known as "hazing." Unfortunately, this frequently involves the consumption of massive amounts of alcohol, in fact, one reads about a young man dying of alcohol poisoning at a school almost every year.

What are kappa kappa psi secrets?

AEA stands for “αγωνίζομαι επί άκρος“ which translates to strive for the highest. The door knock is: two knock, two knocks, one knock. Handshake is the two brothers lock hands like they’re doing a normal handshake and get closed together to conceal it. Then the older brother (one who was initiated the longest ago) quickly and slightly jerks their hand left and back to center (like they’re opening a doorknob). The it’s the newer brother’s turn to do the same thing. The day before you officially cross you have to stay up all night and watch the sunrise together and spend alone time with your class and the guiding spirit; the “sunrise ceremony“ as it’s called. Another event is ”joint ceremony“ which begins when you get randomly kidnapped. A brother comes up behind you and covers your eyes, puts on a blindfold, and takes you to a random secret location. They’re completely silent the whole time until they remove the blindfold, and you see all the psi tbs members are there. All they do is sing some songs and talk and you go home. The 3 main rituals (not including the 2 ceremonies) are bland and feel like a Catholic church mass. The biggest secret of all is that psi is a club for the elite and not a brotherhood based on character.

Where did Vanessa Bell Armstrong pledge Sigma gamma rho?

She is an honorary member; however our honorary members are official members who have taken our sorority's oath. The only difference is that honorary members are extended an invitation to join the sorority and have done extraordinary things in their communities and/or professional fields; therefore making them exempt from some of the sorority's requirements for membership. In other words, some honorary members have not gone to college, which is a requirement for others seeking membership.
