Is spaghetti squash starchy?

Spaghetti squash is relatively low in starch compared to traditional grains and other high-starch vegetables. While it does contain some carbohydrates, its starch content is minimal, making it a popular low-carb alternative for those seeking healthier pasta substitutes. The texture of cooked spaghetti squash resembles that of pasta, which is why it's often used in similar dishes.

Do you peel squash when using it in soup?

I always peel squash before adding it to soup. Squash tend to disintegrate when cooked in soup and so it is probably best to liquidise the soup post-cooking. Liquidising skin of vegetables is not advisable because it will result in small harder bits in the soup (not nice!). An excellent way to add flavour to soup is to roast the squash in the oven first. Because of its tendancy to disintegrate I would suggest doing this with the skin on. Then before adding the roasted squash to the soup peel off the skin. A good recipe for squash soup is:- # Chop 1 onion and cook until softened in a little butter. # Peel and Dice 1 squash. Add to the pan and place a lid on the pan. Steam the squash for 20 minutes until slightly softened. # Add 1 can of sweetcorn kernels. (not creamed) Add 1500ml of Stock made with Swiss Bouillon powder. Cook for another 30 minutes. Blend. # Serve with a little milk. I always peel squash before adding it to soup. Squash tend to disintegrate when cooked in soup and so it is probably best to liquidise the soup post-cooking. Can you give you a recipe for butternut squash mash?

Mashed Butternut Squash

1 butternut squash, peeled and cubed

butter to taste

salt and pepper

In large saucepan of boiling salted water, cook squash for 20 minutes or until tender. Drain and return to pot. Mash with butter, salt and pepper. Serves 4. Some recommend roasting the squash instead of boiling it. Just slice it in half, scoop out the seeds and "place squash in ungreased baking dish,131/2x9x2 inches. Season cut sides with salt and pepper;dot with butter or margarine. Pour water into dish to 1/4-inch depth; cover with aluminum foil. Bake in 400 degree oven 30 minutes or until tender." From there you can scoop out the now-soft flesh, mash and add butter, salt and pepper.

How long can you keep frozen cooked squash?

Well I know it is okay to freeze it in the summer and eat on it until you have fresh squash next summer. Both me and my grandma use that method with fresh squash from our gardens.

Can you use rosemary in butternut squash soup?

Of course you can if you really enjoy rosemary that much.

Remember to remove the needles if you are going to puree and blend the soup,

it's best to leave the sprig of rosemary intact when simmering the soup as it aids in ease of removal for further processing or limiting the amount of time you allow the sprig to simmer.

The rosemary might go better with "roasted" squash cubes infused with rosemary, and served with other grilled veggies in a colorful medley of seasonal veggies.

No. You may cut it in half or quarters, remove the seeds and fibers, pierce the shell a few times with a fork, and bake in a covered baking dish with a little water and salt until tender. Cool and scoop from shell.
