The average price depends on numerous factors. Are you trying to determine the cost over the life of the US Post Office? Or what the cost of a first class letter, or perhaps even the average weight of a letter.

I hate to tell you, but very little. You can purchase them from a dealer or on eBay for about $2 per cover or even less. They usually have almost no real gold, consisting of such a thin layer that it would take thousands of them to get a measurable amount of pure gold.

Also, they are mass produced by private companies, not the USPS, so more can be made at any time.

The G rate dove stamp was issued in 1995 when postage went from 29 cents to 32 cents. The make up rate stamp can still be used for 3 cents of postage.

25 cents was the going rate for postage from 1988 to 1991. All the stamps from this era are still very common and have no significant value as collectibles.

First Class postage went to 22 cents in 1985. There were 22 cent stamps prior to that. There were still other stamps available for post cards and airmail. The price was dependent upon what you were mailing.

$6.50 as postage. If you could find a dealer who would even bother to buy it, he might pay $5.00 or so.

According to the USPS website you can have 3 pieces of paper and one envelope equalling about one ounce. However for 2 ounces they charge .58 cents.

One ounce with an envelope is roughly 8 sheets of "cheap copy paper" or standard notebook paper.

That all depends on which country's stamp you want to know about.

There are many places to sell collectible stamps online. The most popular way is to list them for sale on eBay. They charge a fee to list each stamp or item for sale, plus they usually charge a fee worth around 10% of the selling value of the item.

You could try selling them on Craigslist. It's not as organized and you can't reach a broad audience here because people usually are limited to browsing through one city at a time. Although, it should be free to sell them on Craigslist.

Another alternative is to sell them on UniSquare's stamps marketplace. It's similar to ebay but there are no listing fees and only a 2% final value fee, which is much lower than eBay. You could make an extra 10% in profit or more by selling your stamps at UniSquare.

In the US, you can use it toward meeting the required amount of postage, which is going to mean using two of them toward the 44 cents.

It is also possible that it can be used in some bulk mail, as there are fractional values associated with some of those mailings.

Rotary printing is the most common production method for postage stamps today. In the early days of printing, a large flat plate was used to print a sheet at a time. Now that flat sheet has been curled into a cylinder which allows one to feed a continuous sheet of paper through the printing press. Even sheets can be fed through in a much more efficient way. There are some stamp issues that have been printed using more than one printing method. Others have been printed with the cylinder horizontal to the image and vertical to the image, creating a slight variation in the image size, even if the same master die was used. Identifying the printing method can make a difference in the value of a postage stamp. The US 1912-1918 series of stamps are an example of types that require careful study, particularly in the coil issues, as some of the flat plate varieties are very valuable, while the rotary are worth much less.

James Madison has never appeared on a 5-cent US stamp.

No stamp in good condition is worthless to a collector.

Scott #716 Like most used US postage stamps this is worth 20 cents, the minimum amount required to catalog and stock the stamps. In Mint condition, this stamp is cataloged at 40 cents. Unused will always be worth at least their face value. Special cancellations and different values are likely to be worth more. Consult a postage stamp catalog, usually available at your local library for exact identification and catalog values.

The rate went from 34 to 37 cents on June 30 2002. It went from 37 cents to 39 cents on January 8 2006. That is for the first ounce of first class postage, each additional ounce was 23 cents.
