well my advice is to just watch everything starting from stargate sg1 onto atlantis and then sgu.
because it will give you the information you need and stargate sg1 and stargate atlantis are both a really good series, just like stargate universe.

well the "creatures" in the suits are actually called the Asgard and they never did say the name but they are some kind of hazmat suit to protect from the harsh chemicals on there home world and the creatures in the episode vengeance are called himptom

Samantha Carter used the Asgard time dilation technology to slow down time to plan an escape from their certain destruction from an oncoming beam. Sam found the solution but it was too late and they were in the ship until they became old. Daniel fell in love with Vala. Sam learned to play the cello. Mitchell had the first signs of Alzheimer. In the end Sam found a solution to go back in time. But someone had to stay old to tell the solution to other SG-1 members (That will forget everything). Teal'c accepted. He stepped in a force field that isolated him from the time dilatation. When he got back in time, Teal'c immediately told the solution to Carter and the team was saved.

The members of this SGU team must survive on abandon ship while also try and find a way home. SGU is much more serious then Atlantis.
