No, Stephen Hawking does not smell because his body functions, including sweating and producing body odor, were affected by his motor neuron disease.
In the early 2000's, Professor Hawking was able to use his thumbs to click on a binary switch and communicate with his custom computer, donated by Intel Corporation. Over the years, as his disease has progressed, he has lost the ability to use any of his fingers, and now communicated with the computer via a light sensor which detects movements of his cheek muscle.

It sounds to me that Hawkins has proven the existance of GOD.
What activities did Stephen Hawking do?
He didn't do inventions as such. He was a theoretical physicist, trying to understand the world using formulae based on observations.
Some of his ideas may have contributed to some technology but most of his work is based on special relativity which does not effect many things you would use in daily life (yet).
I recommend reading "a brief history of time" or the shorter version "a briefer history of time".
Those books explain the type of work he does in a not-too-difficult way and are very interesting.

Why is ALS not fatal to Stephen Hawking?
God is not ready for him.
He is a remarkable person because he is so brilliant. The UK government has kept him alive on machines (breathing, feeding, & speech) for decades because he is able to continue using his brain for scientific research. They give him round the clock care and have paid millions of dollars to keep him going. Both he and the govt. think it's worth it. Most ALS patients don't have the resources or the will to put themselves through that.
So I really don't agree with the article that Hawking is a realistic "role model" for ALS patients. He's special but not typical.

Stephen Hawking does not rely much on the government for medical care anymore. He used to when he was younger and less well known, and the government care wasn't much better than that of other ASL patients, his wife had to take care of him for long without extra help. He had several charity funds pay for adaptations. Now he is famous he pays his own staff and well known companies give him free stuff because its free advertising. Noone gets a team of 40 medical people to travel around from the government, not even Hawking. He pays them himself.
Hawking has has a-typical ASL from the beginning, his disease did not progress as fast as that of other patients from the beginning. He was said to live only 2.5 years, but after that time his disease had not progressed that much, so he married and got his job. So he is not a good example. Most people do not have that luck.
Hawking is an atheist, god has nothing to do with it.
