Super Paper Mario is the first Paper Mario game to finally completely associate paper. You can flip from 2-d to 3D!!! There is quite a few riddles, jokes, funny script and humor. First game with no interludes, but playing with the actual characters. This is the best RPG Game in my opinion. Instead of badges, you get items. The only down side is that, you don't get Rpg battles anymore. You get Brawl fights. This was originaly supposed to be on the Gamecube. That is why there is no much motion controls. There has been a lot of changes from the trailer, due to new ideas. The first mega mario was supposed to be his mario world sprite, but is now his mariom bros apperaence. The second player (P2) has no character, but can use their cursor to do the following:
- Collect Star Bits using player 2's cursor (the same as player 1).
- Shoot Star Bits by pressing B (the same as player 1). Tip: Shoot Star Bits at Magikoopa and Hammer Bros to stop them from attacking so P1 can hit them. This trick also works solo.
- Stun enemies and moving obstacles (point at them and hold A). Tip: P2 can stun an enemy to let P1 kill it, for example, or crash two boulders into each other.
- Make Mario jump (point at him and press A, not in SMG2) Tip: Have both players jump at the same time!

The second player (P2) uses an invulnerable character known as the Co-Star Luma. This is the orange star-like creature alongside Mario and Yoshi on the box art. Along with the Super Mario Galaxy abilities, P2 can:
- Stun Yoshi when he tries to run away after being hit.
- Spin attack weaker enemies (point at them, hold A and flick the remote). Tip: Try spin attacking a Luma.
- Grab coins and (some) mushrooms (point at them and press A, then release A to toss the item to player 1). Tip: If a coin appears during a boss battle while P1 is at full health, P2 can hold it until P1 needs it.
- Activate midway flags
- Signal to player 1 (press the +Control Pad to make sounds play on their Wii Remote speaker. Press -, +, 1 or 2 to play the same sounds on player 2's remote.) Tip: Point at something you want P1 to look at and press UP or DOWN. It won't do anything special but you can use this to direct P1's attention toward a critical item, object or enemy.

- In SMG, you had to collect all 120 stars with Mario to unlock Luigi, where as in SMG2, he appears a few levels in at first (and after you beat bowser in World 6, you can play as him as much as you want).
- To complete SMG, you had to get all 120 stars with Mario, then the same 120 stars with Luigi, and then the final bonus 1 with each Mario and Luigi. In SMG2, you need to collect all 120 stars, then the 120 green stars, which are different and are hidden throughout the levels. Then there's a final final level.
- In SMG, most of the purple coin challenges involved finding the coins, which could take forever. In SMG 2, it's a matter of getting them in the time limit.
- In SMG, there were 6 power-ups; Bee Mushroom, Boo Mushroom, Spring Mushroom, Fire Flower, Ice Flower and Rainbow Star. In SMG2, there were 10 power-ups; Bee Mushroom, Boo Mushroom (one level only), Spring Mushroom (one level only), Fire Flower, Rainbow Star, Yoshi, Cloud Flower, Rock Mushroom and Spin Drill.
- There's also quite a big surprise after you beat Bowser in Super Mario Galaxy 2 (I'm not telling what it is because it would ruin the fun).
Overall, most agree that Super Mario Galaxy 2 is superior, though both are excellent games.
