The filming takes about a month to do. Therefore, the March/April "filming" is aired in September-December and the May/June filming, is aired from February-May.

Survivor contestants are allowed one luxury item (it cannot be a survival item such as a lighter, blanket, or a knife), and the approved clothes on their back that they wore to the island. Castaways do not, however, know when they are going to the island, and will often be tricked into thinking they are headed to a photoshoot, while actually landing on the campsite, hence why many Survivors will be wearing suits and dresses the first episode. Survivor Castaways cannot bring hygienic items such as soap, toothbrushes, or razors. If a Castaway appears clean shaven, they were probably waxed, or had lazer hair removal before the show began. The same goes with whitening their teeth. Feminine necessities, however, such as pads and tampons are supplied, as is contact solution, prescribed medications, condoms, and birth control. Castaways are strip-searched before entering the show so that nothing in smuggled in. Supplied items are not allowed to be used for anything other than its intended purpose (for example, in one season, pads were used as toilet paper). Sometimes through the season, bathing suits, shoes or other clothing items will be supplied to the Castaways, though this is rare.

People watch Survivor because they enjoy the show. It is nice to tune in to a program that takes you away from your everyday life and still airs the competitive spirit. From challenges to alliances, merges to tribal councils, Survivor is a show unlike any other. After 23 seasons, it seems that many people still delight in the reality tv program and look forward to tuning in each week to see what happens next.

According to JT in an interview in April of 2010, he claims that he still hasn't spent his million dollar winnings. JT has been saving majority of the money in a savings investment. However, he did admit that he bought his two sisters new cars and himself a guitar. Jt has promised fans that winning the money and the title hasn't changed his daily life. During Survivor: Gabon, the seventeenth season of Survivor which aired from September 25th, 2008 through December 14th, 2008, Robert Crowley (who eventually was named the winner of the million dollar prize) creates a very realistic looking fake hidden immunity idol.

In Episode 9 entitled "The Brains Behind Everything" Crowley was sent to Exile Island where he proceeded to follow the clues and look for the idol. After coming to the spot where the idol should have been he realizes that Sugar may already have it in her possession. Crowley is then successful in creating the first fake hidden immunity idol. Crowley plays the fake idol by passing it to Randy in Episode 10 entitled "Nothing Tastes Better Than Five Hundred Dollars" where Randy believes its real and plays it before the votes are read. Crowley's success at fabricating an idol helped save his spot in the game and eliminated Randy in his place.

Survivors can read and learn about the area in which they will be living before heading out to film the show. It hasn't been declared as to whether or not the show tells them about the dangers before they are out in the elements. However, the contestants are constantly being cared for and watched over by the crew. It isn't exactly how the show makes it seems when it is aired to the audiences.

While contestants are able to go with contact lenses on, it is generally not recommended. The show does provide an area with some personal hygiene products which would include contact lens solution, however, it is best to wear glasses or just go without them.
