It is called a zhan ma dao, which means 'horse chopping blade', it was named this due to its proven effectiveness against cavalry forces throughout many wars in ancient China. First appearing in the Ming dynasty, the zhan ma dao was favoured not only for its practicality but the fact that it could be learned in a short period of time. Not only was it a fearsome chopping weapon, the balance and leverage of this weapon from the long handle meant it could be maneuvered extremely fast. You may carry a sword in the sheath specifically designed for it.. However there are boxes and bags you can use to carry said blade inside as well. If the blade has no sheath, then you can wrap it in thick cloth (but not for long as the stress will damage the blade if it is delicately handmade) and then use a sword box, or tie it to your shoulder.. I highly suggest at least attempting to make an accurate sheath for the weapon if you do not have one of your own... and I implore you to be very careful in doing so, use google or a library to gain knowledge on it, because there is more to a sheath than just shoving a blade into it.. swords are hard and sharp but delicate as well.. they need to be taken care of properly and you must avoid abusing them.. when crafting a sheath for your weapon make sure it is EXACT to the point.... or it will rub the edge of the blade and dull it.. or allow it to be rusted if you don't carefully clean it.. does this help?
