Why is the cast changing on The Talk?
The CBS talk show premiered in October 18th, 2010 with six co-hosts, Holly Robinson Peete, Leah Remini, Sharon Osbourne, Sara Gilbert, Julie Chen & Marissa Jaret Winokour. Marissa left the show mid-season claiming she wasn't seeing enough air-time.
As of September 2011, it has been made public knowledge that both Leah Remini and Holly Robinson Peete will not be returning for the second season. CBS, has not renewed their contracts but made no statements as to why the two were dropped. Comedienne Sheryl Underwood will be joining the panel as a new co-host, and Molly Shannon will be filling in as a guest co-host for a limited engagement. It has been indicated that Marlee Matlin may become the new panelist when Molly Shannon leaves.

Probably one of the reasons so many people like to watch it, kind of a highbrow version of Jerry Springer. Many of the guests are also held to a contractual ransom of sorts, similar to how the producers of the Jerry Springer show treated their "guests".

After a lot of negotiating Conan has agreed to leave NBC in an agreement signed at about 1am PST today. Conan is reportadly getting about $32 Million and about $12 Million for his staff. Jay Leno will take over his old show at the 11:35pm time slot.
* Several news agencies have reported on 01/15/2010 that Jay Leno will be taking over the Tonight Show, again. Conan O'Brien is reportedly leaving NBC for good, his legal team is working on a deal to have NBC pay O'Brien a large settlement, and make him available to work on any other network. While O'Brien leaving has been confirmed by many sources, NBC CEO Jeff Zucker is reportedly trying to uphold O'Brien's contract by keeping him off the air for the next 3.5 years, not only off NBC, but off any other network(s) as well.
Many other night hosts including David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel, Creg Ferguson, even Rosie O'Donnell, have been vocal about the NBC fiasco. Jimmy Kimmel appeared on The Jay Leno Show with the following joke/statement: "I think the best prank I ever pulled was I told a guy once that five years from now I'm gonna give you my show, and then when the five years came, I gave it to him, and then took it back almost instantly. It was hilarious."
However, this NBC feud has been reported as more of an attributing fault of Jeff Zucker, rather than Jay Leno's. Several news articles state that Jeff Zucker's Wikipedia page has been under constant vandalism state by Conan fans, who keep stating that Zucker died.

Why do talk show hosts sit higher than guest?
Guests are made to sit to the right of the right side of the hosts in order to have direct eye-contact with each other. And more rudimentally speaking, there is a larger percentage of right-handers than left-handers in the wide world. So, I think the guests sitting on the right of the host gives a more comfortable eye-contact of the host with the guest.
