Tanning Beds

A tanning bed is a device that emits ultraviolet radiation so that the user can develop a cosmetic tan. Radiation in a tanning bed is emitted at a more concentrated rate than natural sunlight, so the darker skin tone is achieved more quickly.

Date: Jan 1990 made in holland UK

Its a 40 bulb stand up unit that has 4 seporate walls going to a plastic type junction box with the contactor, and the power end has a 3 prong end with black/white/green (10/2) wires going into the male end.

When i first got the bed i pluged it into the 220 box in our barn where we use a welder and it fired right up, 4 of the biulbs were bad tho so took those out. after about 5-7 minutes it would blow the breaker in the barn. The breaker is a 40amp out there with 10/2 wire running to the plug. After flipping the breaker back on and turning the bed back on it now would only take about 2 minutes to trip it...so somethings not right. maybe a short somewhere? a ballast gone bad? any ideas?

I now moved the bed into the basement in the house and now need to figure out what size wire, breaker amp size and stuff to hook it up.

Im assuming that it might need a 50 amp breaker, and then i would have to use like #6 wire?? or would this be overkill. we already have 10/2 and 10/3 wire that is ran from the fusebox into the basement that is tied off and not used and i would be really sweet if i could use that but want to be safe and not burn the house down either!

Any help will be appreciated!!!! Thanks

That's perfectly fine. If you want to compare your skin tones before and after, take a sticker and place it anywhere you want. Make sure you use the same shape sticker in the same spot to keep a constant comparison.

What is worse for you tanning in a tanning bed or in the sun?

This question has really several different parts to it.

My question for you is where are you tanning? Because some parts of the earth are exposed to higher levels of sunlight. The higher the altitude the more you can get burnt because you are closer to the sun as well.

Tanning beds expose you to different UV rays than normal sunlight so it all depends on the duration of time that you spend in the sun or the tanning bed. If you plan to tan outside instead of tanning indoors, check out different tanning lotions.

Tanning lotions can make the whole difference between whether its better for you to tan indoors or outdoors. Some lotions block harmful UV rays while others allow UV rays to penetrate your skin so the melanin in your skin reacts. The reaction of your melanin will cause you to tan.

To see a full review that may help you determine which tanning lotion is right for you go to my website. This may help you make that determination so whichever you prefer, outside or indoors, you can be properly protected.

Tanning in a tanning bed is worse because you are closer to the uv rays and they can damage you more easily.

How long to stay in a tanning bed without lotion?

You shouldn't ever go into a tanning bed without lotion. You won't tan nearly as fast and you age your skin 10x faster and you'll burn more easily. If you aren't going to use lotion, I'd say don't tan at all.

Does tanning in a tanning bed burn calories?

NO. How can it burn calories? Skin tanning is a chemical reaction between electromagnetic waves just beyond the visible spectrum of light and our skin, whereas the burning of calories requires carbohydrates and oxygen contained in our blood stream to interact with each other. They do this in our muscle tissues thereby setting mechanical energy free. This means if you want to burn calories, you must perform physical work, it is as simple as that.

How much does a tanning bed cost?

Some places you buy minutes to tan... other places you actually buy tans and usually they're only up to 20 minutes long. My cousin got 25 tans for $40... but Tanning places are usually $7 bucks a tan. Sometimes up to 14 minutes is only half a tan so you get twice as many if you only go for 14... My cousin got it for her wedding and her sister did to.. but her sister for her wedding shower went to the beach with her friends and got a tan.. but my cousin got a professional tan

It also depends on the place in some places you pay by the minutes and a home tanning bed can cost 1,500-4,500.

i pay $7 at my local tanning place for 20 minutes.

What is the best tanning bed lotion?

Depends on how dark you want to be. A good tried and true long lasting staple is any Banana Boat lotion. Most tanning salons offer lotions and tanning bronzers.

Do you close the lid in a tanning bed?

Yes...close the lid of the tanning bed to get the full effects of the tanning bulbs. Leaving the tanning bed open will not produce the desired effects. The tanning beds are designed to have the lid closed to tan your body evenly.

Do you have to have a license to work at a tanning bed?

In most places, you do not need a specific license to work at a tanning bed facility, but regulations can vary by state or country. Some regions may require employees to complete training on safe tanning practices or skin care. It's important to check local laws and regulations to ensure compliance with any necessary certifications or training. Employers may also have their own requirements for staff training.

Can going to the tanning bed cause problems while being pregnant?

There is no hard evidence suggesting that tanning during a pregnancy will cause harm to the unborn baby, but it is strongly advised that you speak with your doctor first. The heat associated with lying in a tanning bed can be potentially harmful for the baby and mother. Prolonged heat exposure can cause overheating (hyperthermia) which has been associated with some spinal defects of the fetus.
