Tasmanian Devils

A Tasmanian devil has bilateral symmetry, as usual for mammals.

One unusual feature of this animal is an asymmetric running gait. The fore limbs move normally, but the rear limbs don't. The fore and aft motion of the left rear-leg is very noticeably shorter than that of the right - the devil runs as if one leg is injured.

Of course not. Many people 'see' what they wish to see. There are many photographs of things that resemble other other and completely different things.

Clouds are an excellent example. Cloud formations have often resembled faces or the shape of countries etc.

Tasmanian devils are useful in that they eat road kill from the side of the road. Unfortunately, this also poses a threat to the creature, as many then become victims of cars themselves.

Tasmania does not have an official animal emblem but unofficially the Tasmanian Devil is commonly accepted as the emblem of this state. An alternative unofficial emblem is the Thylacine, commonly known as the Tasmanian Tiger, which is now extinct. The Thylacine was not a tiger but a carnivorous creature hunted to extinction by early European settlers.
