While hunting in the Spine, he finds a blue dragon egg. The dragon hatches and he keeps it in the forest near him. Once the dragon starts talking to him (telepathically) he names the dragon Sapphira.

He becomes a dragon rider and with Brom leaves Carvahall before the evil King of the land he lives in (Alagaesia) can capture him and force him to serve him. Brom dies later on.

Eragon joins the Varden and gets training from the elves who live in the north.

He fights and kills the Evil King and frees Alagasia.

F**k you ID1856934821 for putting that answer in. I'm the one who wrote the question (suck on that). The real way is to steer saphira so she's just behind the dove and wait there until you hear a snapping sound. This means you have caught the dove. Repeat this with the other doves.
