The boy that gives you the flute in Link to the Past is in the Magic Grove area in dark world. If you go in the light world, he disappears. Go to the dark world, go to the magic grove area, talk to the tree looking guy and he'll tell you about how he used to play his flute (ocarina) for the birds and how he wishes to do so again. Use the mirror and warp back to the light world, go to the top of the magic grove and dig in the flowers until you find the flute.
