When did The Ramones break up?
On August 6, 1996 the Ramones performed their 2,263rd and last concert, which had been announced as the final show, in advance, by Joey Ramone. They never actually broke up. After 2263 live shows they just stopped performing.
Johhny was ill with cancer. Joey was also chronically ill. Marky and Dee-Dee had substance abuse problems. Tommy was producing other music. They had been conservative with their earnings and did not need to keep touring.

He would breathe in the hot fumes of a boiling kettle to loosen up his airways and voice before every show and on this occasion the kettle supposedly exploded in his face showering him with boiling water. Unbelievably the show still went ahead with Joey's face and hands covered in medical cream.
