Are there degrees of acceleration of a tornado?
Yes, tornadoes are classified based on their wind speeds using the Enhanced Fujita (EF) scale, which ranges from EF0 (weakest) to EF5 (strongest). The wind speed of a tornado determines the degree of acceleration and its destructiveness.

I have personally owned dogs who can predict tornadoes. I had a Pekingese who was very sensitive to changes in air pressure. This dog was never wrong. I could tell by his behavior when there would be a tornado near our little town.
I have since studied this and it seems that they can sense changes in air pressure. They probably sense other factors as well, such as subtle changes in magnetic fields. I am a veterinary technician and I have no doubt that dogs can presict tornadoes.

This is is based on a rather faulty risk assessment. While tornadoes do occur in Oklahoma and Kansas more than anywhere else in the world, most people who live out there are never hit by one. Most of the time the weather there is quite nice. The region we know as Tornado Alley has plenty of good farmland as well, and is an important part of American agriculture.
Furthermore, no place comes without its disadvantages. We are more aware of tornadoes than many other threats because they kill and destroy in a rather spectacular fashion, which attracts media attention. If you look at the statistics, tornadoes are by no means the greatest danger you could live with. Tornadoes kill an average of about 60 people int he U.S. each year, and that number is steadily declining. This is out of a total of about 2.4 million deaths from all causes. More significant causes of death include icy roads (450 per year), murder (17,000 per year), and air pollution (200,000 per year).
What happens after when a tornado happens?

•Then he left, everything silent, yet all that there was left to see was the flashing light of danger appeared.
When was the last time a tornado hit NJ?
Sunday July 5, 2009 while at the Manasquan Beach with my family at around 3 o'clock a funnel appeared on the sand in the area behind GeeGee's right over the beach where the jetty is. It caused a large beach umbrella, hats, books and other personal belongings to fly up and out to sea resembling confetti at a ticker tape parade. The winds were quessed to be at or greater than 70 miles per hour by lifeguards who witnessed the event. It was briefly frightening but soon turned entertaining in that the umbrella that sailed in the air like a helium balloon that had gotten away from a child finally land in the ocean far enough from harms way of swimmers. A round of applauds erupted in great relief when its descent into the ocean meant no one could get hurt. When I returned home from vacation I searched for a report on the event and was surprised that it didn't make front page news in a local paper there. People who where there shared in a magnificent event.
