I remember the tours of the late 1950s. Many of the stars of that era travelled with the show. Jackie Wilson, Clyde McPhatter, The Jordan Brothers and many of the one hit wonders of that era travelled with the show.
I saw the Supremes, Lou Christie, Manhattan Transfer and Gene Pitney for sure. This was circa 1964. I have read that The Shirelles, the Crystals, Johnny Tillotson and Brian Hyland were also on this tour.
I saw the tour that came through Akron, Ohio in the summer of 1964. The groups were as follows: The Orlons, The Crystals, Ruby and the Romantics, Gary US Bonds, The Tymes, Dick and Dee Dee, Gene Pitney, Johnny Tillotson, Lou Christie, Paul and Paula (Paul was missing and Dick Clark filled in), The Essex, and The Dovells. The Dovells opened the show and Gene Pitney closed it. I may be missing a few acts, but this was the core group of entertainers. It was my first concert, but the show was outstanding to my ears.
