Notre Dame is credited with 13 national championships. The years were 1924, 1929, 1930, 1938, 1943, 1946, 1947, 1949, 1953, 1966, 1973, 1977, and 1988.

==actually, in division 1A, the NCAA does not award a championship. The reference made to thirteen championships here are "POLL" championships. The early ones especially have to be taken with a healthy dose of skepticism.

Notre Dame has not won any NCAA Football National Championships. The NCAA does not award a national football title in Division 1A football because there is not a sanctioned NCAA playoff system in place as there is in most other NCAA sports. The football Division 1A National Football title is a "mythical" title being decided by as many as several dozen different polling groups over the past 150 odd years. There have been as many as five national champions voted in a single year in the past. The current BCS National Title is not recognized by the NCAA either.

Through the 2008 season, Florida State and Notre Dame have met six times with Florida State leading the series 4-2.

FSU won in 1981, 1994, 2003, and the 1996 Orange Bowl. Notre Dame won in 1993 and 2002.

Pointed arches were used in Gothic architecture to help support the weight of vaulted ceilings. Rounded arches previously used could not support the increased height, width and weight of new building designs. The concept of the pointed arch operates in a similar manner as two leaning objects. Two sides of a pointed arch lean against each other for support and the increased force and loads placed on the arches from the ceiling is displaced onto the flying buttresses, which are supported by the ground. The increased roof support provided by the pointed arches allowed building walls to be thinner. Decorative details seen on arches were a natural consequence of Gothic design.

Not altogether true; certainly N-D needs constant maintenance, but it was built from 1170 to 1340 to a single plan, which has not been changed since. This makes it very different from most Cathedrals, which do indeed change and evolve over the centuries. The only significant change in N-D is the nature of the spire, which was originally timber and lead, but was replaced with cast iron in the 19th century.

== == Notre Dame de Paris was built atop the sacred groves of the Celts, who held their services on the island on the Seine, by the Romans. A basilica dedicated to St. Etienne was constructed there around 528 by Childebert. A Romanesque church replaced the basilica and it stood until 1163 when work began on the structure which stands today. Although commenced during the reign of Louis VII, Bishop Maurice de Sully was the architect and had his vision in 1160; the work began in 1163 and the foundation stone was laid by Pope Alexander III. It took 200 years to complete (in about 1345). The movie, on the whole, was pretty accurate. There was really a Rudy who did make Notre Dame as a walk on, and he did get a sack against Georgia Tech in the last Home Game. However, according to people directly involved with the story, (those being Joe Montana and Dan Davine) said that the scene which the players laid down their jerseys so Rudy would play was completely fabricated, as was the chanting of his name through out the stadium. Joe also said that when they carried Rudy off the field at the end, it was more of horsing around than a deep emotional moment.

So, Rudy was mostly accurate in terms of plot structure, yet there were a few Hollywood improvs thrown in for dramatic effect. Regardless, it was still a good film.

Almost all the cathedrals named for Our Lady (Notre Dame) are Gothic cathedrals. One famous example of a Notre Dame cathedral that isn't Gothic is in Bayeux, France (part of the province of Normandy), which was constructed in the Norman-Romanesque style.
