Please re-check your bill. You'll find that it's a Federal Reserve Note. The last $2 silver certificates were dated 1899, and the last silver certificates of any denomination were dated 1957.

Unless it's uncirculated, a 2003 $2 FRN is worth only face value.

You didn't provide the bill's date and seal color, which are important facts needed to determine the value. However, assuming the bill is either a red-seal U.S. Note from 1953 or 1963, or a green-seal Federal Reserve Note dated 1976 or later, there's nothing special about that serial number. The red-seal bills are worth 3 or 4 dollars on average and the green-seal ones are current issues worth exactly $2.

Serial numbers are counters and security features so they rarely add to a bill's value. There are people who collect unusual numbers such as 00000001 or 123456789 but that's about all.

Depending on what year it is, you could go to a local pawn shop (although they might not have a clue).

What you want to do is find the closest shop that specializes in coin and stamp collection and see what they tell you.

Without knowing what year your bill is from, I can tell you that a "large format" bill (one that is larger than the bills we use now) will be worth a lot more. "Small" or "normal" format bills will probably be worth less.

The U.S. did not print any bills of any denomination dated 1943.

According to the most recent production figures from the Treasury, about 45% of all bills printed in recent years are $1 notes.

Because there's no way to accurately determine how many bills are lost, damaged, or destroyed over time it's not easy to project from that figure to get an idea of how many $1 bills are actually in circulation at any given time. However on average, worn dollar bills that are officially redeemed for replacement are about a year and a half old while higher denominations can stay in circulation for as much as a couple of decades. Unless in good condition, $20. Perhaps as much as twice that if in perfect condition to the right buyer. However, if you use it, you risk the government burning it.

No. 1957 silver certificates were printed in large numbers and many were saved when silver certificates were discontinued only a few years later, so most of them have only a small extra value.

The US didn't print any $1 bills dated 1989, and the only "$1" coins minted that year are American Eagle bullion dollars that were sold to collectors and not meant for circulation.

Quite a few, but none of them are likely to ever be found in circulation - they date from 1918 or earlier and are a different size than current bills. Check out the Related Link for a list of prices.
