The blue seal indicates that your bill is a silver certificate, a form of currency that's no longer issued. The 1957 B series date also indicates it was printed in the early 1960s, just before the government stopped printing silver certificates.

In spite of its age and the fact that they're no longer printed, late-date silver certificates are very common among collectors. As of 04/2010, a circulated one is worth only about $1.25.-$1.50 at auction, while a nice uncirculated one might sell for $3-$4.

$1 Silver Certificates (indicated by the blue seal) remain common among collectors. Despite its age, you bill is probably only worth $2 or $3 at most.

The U.S. did not issue $2 notes with that date. You may have a bill issued by a private bank, since that was permitted up until the Federal Reserve system took over issuing all paper currency. It would have to be appraised in person by a professional dealer in paper money.

All green-seal dollar bills are worth face value only, unless they're uncirculated.

The vast majority of "Confederate" bills found today are actually replicas sold in souvenir shops or included in memento sets. Those made within the last 35 years or so are required by law to have a word such as COPY, FACSIMILE, or REPLICA printed on them but that's usually absent on older ones.

Many of the copies are printed on artificially aged paper using photo-lithographs of genuine bills so they can be difficult to tell from the real thing unless you look closely at the signatures - the ink is flat and on the surface of a replica, while it is a slightly different color and more deeply impressed on a genuine note.

The Related Link has a list of serial and plate numbers found on the more common copies; you can compare those to the numbers on your bill. If they don't match you should seek out a dealer or appraiser who specializes in Confederate currency and have the bill examined in person.

As of 12/2011, retail prices range from $250 for a very worn bill, up to around $750 with minimal wear. An uncirculated note could bring double that amount.

A bill's serial number rarely affects its value or helps to ID it. Please post a new, separate question with the bill's date and what letter, if any, is next to the date.

The last official printing of a $500 bill by the US was the 1934 series when the face of the late president William McKinley was featured. Others preceded McKinley. It would depend on the issue date of the note.

The value will depend on the condition of the note mostly. Most run of the mill circulated 10.00 silver certificates will be worth $15.00 to $20.00 if sold to a dealer. If someone wanted to buy one from a dealer the cost would be about $25.00 - $40.00.

Of course many factors can cause the value to increase quite a bit. First - if the serial number has a star at the beginning instead of a letter. Most average notes like this would be valued at $65.00 - $100.00. Some would sell for $1000.00's. Also, the better the condition (grade) of any note, the greater the value.

The most valuable 10.00 Silver Certificate carries a date of "1933" - they are quite rare and generally sell for upwards of $5000.00 even in used condition.

The motto In God We Trust was not added to bills until the late 1950s and early 1960s so that's not a misprint.

However, you do have a nice find - this series retails at between $75 and $200 if circulated, and for up to $500 if uncirculated and unfolded.
