Washington's portrait first appeared on a $1 bill in 1869. His image and others were used on $1 bills until 1918 when it became permanent. The familiar portrait by Gilbert Stuart was adopted in 1923.

The letter K refers to the Dallas branch of the Federal Reserve. Those letters (A through L) each correspond with a specific bank and district.

2009 isn't old enough to be worth anything above face value.

If it's in crisp, clean, uncirculated condition, it could be worth a couple dollars above face. However, if it's worn and used, it's still worth $5.

August 15, 1971 by President Richard Nixon. It was supposed to be a temporary suspension that just never got reinstated. It was suspended because other countries suspected the US of printing more money than we had Gold reserves. The idea was that other countries could back their currencies with dollars instead of gold since the dollar was backed by gold. Once the gold standard was suspended all currencies became fiat currencies. If the US economy collapses and the dollar hyper inflates the economy of the world will also collapse. If by "bar," you're referring to the security strip that can be seen when the bill is held up to light, then the answer is no. They weren't added to money until 1990, in bills $5 and up.

They didn't make in 2001. The last year they made them was 1963. If you're talking about the ones you see on tv or in coin catalogs , they are either cardboard "copies" layered in silver , which are worthless , or the more reputable companies make "copies" out of .999 pure silver about a 1/4 inch thick and about the height and width of a dollar bill , and worth little more than its weight in silver . Keep in mind when buying a replica of United States currency the word "COPY" has to be stamped on the piece by law to make it legal to sell , but they tried to hide it

1933 is a relatively rare date for $1 bills. It's probably worth $20 or more. One thing to keep in mind is that the phrase "In God We Trust" wasn't added to paper money until 1957, so the lack of it on your bill doesn't give it any extra value.

It's actually from Washington, DC. Minneapolis is the location of the Federal Reserve Bank that requested and distributed the bill (as part of a much larger order, of course).

As of 08/2012 it would almost certainly be an 1870 to 1874 series $5 National Gold Bank Note. These retail anywhere from $1000 in worn condition to nearly $9000 if almost like new.

Please check your bill again. If it has a brown seal it can't be from 1926 because the only brown-seal $20 bills printed in that decade were issued in 1929. Please see the Related Question for more information.

FWIW the bill was actually printed in Washington at the request of the Chicago Federal Reserve Bank.

To determine if a 1934 A $20 bill is real, examine several key features. Look for the watermark of Andrew Jackson, which should be visible when held up to the light, and check for the security thread embedded in the paper. Additionally, inspect the bill under UV light; real currency will exhibit certain features that fluoresce. Finally, feel the texture of the bill; genuine currency has a distinct, slightly rough texture due to the use of high-quality cotton and linen paper.

The US. didn't print any $10 gold certificates in 1929, only National Currency notes.

Well the treasury didn't print any two dollar bills in 1932.in 1928 they did.they stopped in 1963.to tell if you have one the 2 dollar bill would have a red printed seal on the right side on front of bill and serial numbers in red and that stopped in 1963.your oldest ones would have the printed seal where it would be found on the left side also in red and serial number's you have one from 1932 it could be rare and go for alot,depending on condition,and if the seal is on left.i know you can get $100 to $1,000 for the 1963 one in good condition.

Both terms are correct. Most of the world refers to paper currency as "notes" and from a strict viewpoint, so does the US Treasury. But common usage in the US is to call them "bills".

It's just like the way we all call 1¢ coins "pennies" even though the last true 1-penny coins were minted during colonial times.
