Sildenafil citrate is a drug used to treat erectile dysfunction. It was originally hoped to be used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension. Patented in 1996 and released in 1998 the drug was developed by a group of pharmaceutical chemists working at Pfizer laboratories in England. The little blue pill has become the gold standard in the treatment of impotence and a big topic for 'stand up' comedians.
