Vincent van Gogh

Van Gogh traveled from place to place and didn't call anywhere his home town.

On July 27, 1890, van Gogh shot himself in the chest in a field at Auvers-sur-Oise. The shot was not immediately fatal and van Gogh walked back to the Ravoux Inn where he died two days later on July 29, 1890. He was just 37 years old.

The last known sale of this painting was in 1990 when it was sold at auction in Christie's in NYC for US$82.5 million. I don't know the exact figures, but it sold originally for more than any painting had ever been sold for to the time.

Van Gogh shot himself because he thought "there is no point in me living anymore." Then he took a revolver, went to a field, and shot himself. Then he walked back to the asylum, stayed untreated for 3 days, then died.

The most unique thing about him was his attention to colour and that he didn't use a brush to paint all the time just used a pallet and applied the pain to the canvas and sing the pallet created the eccentric lines in his painting this technique was very quick to do and allowed him to paint over 900 paintings before he ended his life.

While in Paris, van Gogh met Paul Signac. Signac learned of a new method known as pointillism. In pointillism, small dots or points of unmixed color were dabbed onto the canvas beside each other so they would appear to blend when a viewer stepped back from the painting. Van Gogh adopted what Signac had taught him. He tried to do pointillism but his dots would come out as dashes.

There are seven genuine Sunflower painings by van Gogh. Any other is a fake.
