Is there proof in the Bible of Mary being assumed body and soul into heaven?

A:There is no mention in the Bible of the Assumption of Mary.

The origins of this doctrine lay with the 'Dormition of the Virgin Mary', a doctrine of the Orthodox Churches, that gradually spread to the west and became belief in an assumption in body and soul. The 13th century saw most Catholic theologians accepting the belief of the Assumption, but this doctrine did not become an article of faith until Pope Pius XII declared it a dogma of the Catholic faith: "The Immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory" (Munificentissimus Deus, Pope Pius XII, 1950).

Catholic Answer:

If one understands scripture, the Assumption of Mary can be found there.

1 Corinthians 15:21-22

"For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.

For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive."

However, Mary was exempted from death and corruption because of her Immaculate Conception. She was born without the stain of Original Sin.

Then in Saint Luke's Gospel the Angel Gabriel in addressing Mary at the Annunciation:

"Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee,"

Had Mary carried the stain of Original Sin, she could not have been described as 'full of grace.'

So, the Doctrine of the Assumption of Mary was not a new revelation. It had always been found in scripture. It just took a proper interpretation. Mary, because of her unique position of being conveived without sin was not subjected to the normal death and corruption of all other humans.

Who were Mary's parents?

The apocryphal Gospel of James states that the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary were Saint Anne and Saint Joachim. There is nothing in canonical scriptures to verify this but the Church has traditionally called them by these names.

Do Catholics and Protestants differ in their views of Mother of Jesus?

Yes there is a difference in views.

Roman Catholic tradition add to what is in the Bible. Some Catholic teachings are that Mary was born sinless, was taken bodily into heaven, acts as a mediator between mankind and her son Jesus. Also that she remained a virgin all her life after the virgin birth of Jesus.

None of this is biblical and protestants regard these beliefs as manufactured for the benefit of the catholic church at best, and as heretical at worst. Protestants believe Mary was a sinner, the same as all mankind except for her son Jesus. That she had normal sexual relations and had other children, that nothing is known about her death or burial. And most importantly, that she and other catholic saints do not intercede on the behalf of christians prayers and that Christ alone is the intercessor for all of mankind.

.

Catholic AnswerOf course, Catholics believe that the Blessed Virgin Mary was given to them by Our Blessed Lord from the cross when He told all of us, represented by the apostle, John, "Behold your mother." We are to imitate Our Blessed Lord in all things, and He loved His mother above all people who ever lived, as He said through the Archangel Gabriel, "Blessed are you among women" and called her "full of grace". She was the only perfect disciple of her Blessed Son that ever lived, and as she, herself tells us in the Scriptures, "Do whatever He tells you." Our Blessed Lady prophesized of herself, in the Sacred Scriptures, "all generations will call be blessed." For God has done great things for her, and for us, through her. If it were not for Our Blessed Lady, Our Blessed Lord would not have entered the world, but through her all generations are blessed because she was humble enough to submit her will entirely to God, something everyone of us can learn from her.

.

All of the protestant founders, who left the Catholic Church, took with them a great love and respect for Our Blessed Lady, and Martin Luther, Calvin, and others all wrote about her with love, tenderness, and great devotion. As they, and their followers got further and further from Christianity, they necessarily lost this respect and love for God's mother, and thus modern day protestants have sadly veered far from their Blessed Savior and His love for His Mother.

Was Jesus Mother Mary black?

Jesus' mother Mary was Jewish. While it is not impossible that she might be black the Israelites were not a black race and there is no reason to think Mary was black.

Was Mary is the mother of all people?

Mary was not the mother of all people. She was the mother of Jesus and is sometimes referred to as the Mother of God because she gave birth to a God-like man.

Was virgin Mary ALWAYS kind humble and obedient?

Yes. But for a more advanced answer, 4.99/5

No. 1000/100

Roman Catholic AnswerThe Blessed Virgin Mary was immaculated conceived, in other words, she was preserved from the stain of original sin from the first moment of her conception. Thus she was never plagued, like the rest of us, with the inclination to evil that our sinful nature is prone to. We know very little of her early life, and what we do not is not Scripture, so we can only conjecture. It would be my opinion that without sinful tendencies she would have always been kind, humble, and obedient.

Why does the Angel Gabriel call Mary 'highly favored'?

You refer to this passage in the first chapter of Luke's Gospel:

v.28. And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, [thou that art] highly favoured, the Lord [is] with thee: blessed [art] thou among women.

Mary was the one young virgin of all the virgins in Israel chosen by God to bear Jesus, the Saviour of the world - certainly favoured and blessed!

Later, when she is carrying the baby Jesus in her womb, she visits her cousin Elizabeth, who calls her, "the mother of my Lord"

Was Jesus' mother with him when he died?

A:The synoptic gospels make it clear that those of Jesus' acquaintance, including his mother Mary, looked from afar off. Neither Mary nor any disciple or friend of Jesus at his crucifixion.

John's Gospel says that the 'disciple whom Jesus loved', alone of the disciples, stood at the foot of the cross with Mary, mother of Jesus. In this gospel, Jesus told the beloved disciple to look after Mary like his own mother.

In honor of Mary how many mysteries of the rosary are there?

There are twenty mysteries of the rosary in honor of Mary. They are the 5 Joyous Mysteries, the 5 Luminous Mysteries. the 5 sorrowful Mysteries and the 5 Glorious Mysteries. They are enumerated below in the instructions:

.

How to pray the rosary: First of all, one of the most important things that we must do as Christians is to pray, and beginning prayer is meditation. Realize that Christian meditation has absolutely nothing in common with Eastern meditation. That are completely different things and that fact that they are called by the same word is an unfortunate happenstance. Christian meditation is recalling and thinking about the truths of the faith. Meditation using Sacred Scripture (the Bible) is called Lectio Divinia.

The rosary is a series of prayers based on the Bible - the Our Father, and the Hail Mary (the Angelic Salutation from the Gospel of Luke). But the vocal prayer is like the background music, if you will, to the meditation of the mysteries of the faith, which is the heart of the rosary.

The rosary meditations are:

.

Joyful

(Monday and Saturday)

Annunciation of angel Gabriel to Mary

Visitation of Mary to her cousin Elizabeth

Nativity of our Blessed Savior

Presentation in the Temple

Finding in the Temple

.

Luminous

(Thursday)

Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan

Self manifestation of Jesus at the Miracle of Cana

Proclamation of the Kingdom of God

The Transfiguration on the Mount

The Institution of the Blessed Eucharist

.

Sorrowful

(Tuesday and Friday)

The Agony in the Garden

The Scouring at the Pillar

The Crowning with Thorns

The Carrying of the Cross

The Crucifixion

.

Glorious

(Wednesday and Sunday)

The Resurrection

The Ascension

The Descent of the Holy Spirit

The Assumption of the B.V.M.

The Crowning of the B.V.M. as Queen of Heaven and Earth.

.

So we are praying by meditating on the mysteries of our Redemption. And this form of prayer was very ancient, but the form that we currently use was given by Our Blessed Mother to St. Dominic (who was founder of the Dominicans). As Catholics, we walk in our Savior's footsteps, and one of the ways in which we imitate Him is in His love and devotion to His mother.

.

So the rosary is important to us, as Catholic Christians, as fulfilling our Blessed Lord's command to pray always, as meditation on the events of His life, as a form of prayer that was given to us at the express wish of Our Blessed Mother, and as one of the forms of prayer, above most others that leads many saints to intimate union with God.

.

Below is the form that I made up for my students in Sunday school (in the instructions below there is L for leader and R for response, that is if you have two or more people praying the rosary together; obviously, if you are saying it alone, you will be saying all the prayers):

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

CRUCIFIX

L. I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of Heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord.

He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit

and born of the Virgin Mary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended into Hell. On the third day He rose again.

He ascended into Heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

R. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church,

the Communion of the Saints, the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

Our Father (for the Pope). Three Hail Mary's ( for increase of Faith, Hope, Charity) Glory be.

All. O my Jesus, forgive us our sins,

save us from the first of Hell.

Lead all souls to Heaven,

especially those who have most need of Thy mercy. Amen

For each decade:

L. Our Father, who art in heaven,

BIG BEAD

Hallowed be Thy Name,

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done,

On Earth as it is in Heaven

R. Give us this day, our daily bread,

And forgive us our trespasses,

As we forgive those who trespass against us,

And lead us not into temptation,

But deliver us from evil.

L. Hail Mary, full of grace,

SMALL BEADS - 10 TIMES

The Lord is with thee,

Blessed are thou amongst women,

And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

R. Holy Mary, Mother of God,

Pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

L. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

CHAIN

R. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

L. O my Jesus...

R. forgive us our sins,

save us from the first of Hell.

Lead all souls to Heaven,

especially those who have most need of Thy mercy. Amen

Final prayers:

Hail, Holy Queen

, Mother of Mercy! Our life,

our sweetness, and our hope! To thee do we

cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do

we send up our sights, mourning and weeping

in this valley of tears. Turn, then, most

gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward

us; and after this our exile show unto us the

blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement,

O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!

L. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,

R. that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen.

All:

O God, whose only-begotten Son, by His life,

death, and Resurrection, has purchased for us

the rewards of eternal life, grant, we beseech

Thee, that meditating on these Mysteries of

the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin

Mary, we may imitate what they contain, and

obtain what they promise, through the same

Christ our lord. Amen.

What does it mean to be immaculately conceived?

Roman Catholic AnswerImmaculately conceived means "conceived without original sin". Adam and Eve were "immaculate" as they were created without original sin, but they were not conceived (they didn't have a mother and father). The only person who was conceived, in the normal manner, but was conceived immaculately, was the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Immaculate Conception refers to the fact that Mary, from the first moment of her conception was protected from the stain of original sin that every other human being has inherited from Adam and Eve. This honor was due to the fact that she would bear the son of God in her womb, and sin can not be anywhere near His Conception.

Please note that the Immaculate Conception refers exclusively to Mary's conception in the womb of her mother, Anne. It has nothing to do with Jesus' conception.
