How many vocaloids songs are there?
As of this post 8 Aug, 2012, at a minimum, there are over 120,000 songs using Vocaloid.
On the Japanese website, Nico Nico Douga (the central hub of Vocaloid music and videos), we get these numbers:
1. 84,000+ original songs tagged with "Vocaloid" and "オリジナル曲" (original_song).
2. 47,000+ cover songs tagged with "Vocaloid" and "カバー曲" (cover_song).
Take the above 120,000+ songs from that website alone and consider the following:
1. Add all the potential Nico Nico Douga videos that were tagged incorrectly.
2. Add any original songs and covers from YouTube that are not reprints of existing videos.
3. All other websites that have original music and covers using Vocaloid.
The number is possibly much higher than 120,000.

Remote Control - Rin and Len Kagamine
Dancing Samurai - Gakupo Kaumi
World is mine - Miku Hatsune
Panda Hero - Rin and Len Kagaime (Cover version)

Who is the character who people mistake as a Vocaloid but looks like Miku?
There is the character called Black Rock Shooter with black twin tails for hair that could be mistaken as Miku or a variant of Miku. The reality is that the character only coincidentally looks like Miku. Otherwise they are unrelated in that regard. The confusion comes from the use of Miku in a song and video titled "Black Rock Shooter" by ryo (supercell) who was inspired by the original artwork for Black Rock Shooter. The song gained popularity and many fans confused the original Black Rock Shooter character as Miku herself. It is not uncommon to see Music Videos that feature Vocaloid characters dressed differently with varying hair colors and styles, but in this case, they really are separate characters.
There are many other derived fan-made characters of Miku that could cause confusion. Most just have a passing resemblance to her with many being color changes but an example of one that looks basically like Miku is Miku Hagane (there are two versions, H-side and M-side), the heavy metal version of Miku.

No, not exactly. Their family name, Kagamine, comes from combining Kagami (which means mirror) and Ne (which means sound). They were created as mirror images of each other (Rin was made first so she is the oldest). Crypton decided to leave it up to the creator what they were (twins, siblings, lovers or just friends).

Teto's character item is, apparently, french bread.
Note that Teto Kasane is not a Vocaloid, but an Utauloid for the free singing synthesizer UTAU. Since the Vocaloid and UTAU communities are closely related, Teto and other UTAUloids have many fans within the Vocaloid community and its not surprising to see many songs featuring Teto or other UTAUloids singing alongside their Vocaloid counterparts.
