Kandinsky began with realistic works. His early works were influenced by Russian folk tales. Many were landscapes. Then he painted in impressionist style. But soon he created abstract paintings. He used bright colors, shapes and bold lines to express feelings or depict music.

i believe it is an abstract interpretation of space, looking in at planets and comets and other space gear, In the top left corner it looks like a sattilite (though this was made a bit too early) and also the red triangle looks like a comet or something similar. Anyway.. yeah

Like most artists he was inspired by his life, his environment and his imagination. But most importantly by music. He played the piano from a young age and had a very musical background and this influenced his artwork greatly.
