Woodlice (Roly-Poly and Pill bug)

Woodlice have compound eyes that are located on the sides of their heads. These eyes are made up of multiple small lenses, allowing woodlice to detect movement and changes in light. However, their vision is not very acute, and they primarily rely on other senses, such as touch and chemical detection, to navigate their environment.

A pill bug's coloration, including purple hues, can result from various factors, including genetic variation, environmental conditions, and dietary influences. The presence of specific pigments, such as carotenoids or other compounds, can also contribute to their color. Additionally, the lighting and humidity in their environment may affect how their colors are perceived. Overall, the purple coloration is a complex interplay of biology and surroundings.

They are pretty harmless crustaceans. I would sort out the dampness that attracts them and they will go somewhere wetter.

Pill bugs, also known as Armadillidiidae, are most commonly found in moist, decaying environments such as leaf litter, soil, and under rocks. Therefore, it would be least likely to find them in dry, arid regions like deserts or in open, sunlit areas where moisture is scarce. Additionally, environments with extreme temperatures, such as freezing cold or very hot areas, are also inhospitable for pill bugs.

Rolly pollies, or pillbugs, absorb moisture through their exoskeleton and the gills located under their bodies. They do not drink water in the traditional sense; instead, they rely on humidity in their environment to take in moisture. When conditions are damp, they can also consume decaying plant material, which provides some hydration. This adaptation allows them to thrive in moist habitats.
