Xanax is a highly addictive drug and should only be used extremely sparingly while under the care of a competent doctor. It is designed to help people who experience severe panic attacks. The down-side of the drug is that it is extremely difficult to stop taking.

You need to speak to your pyschiatrist. Maybe seroquel would help - it is fast acting. Therre are many SSRI's,so you may need to switch to another one that is effective.

There likely is a saliva test for Xanax. I know this because I am a patient of a methadone clinic for heroin use and the clinic tests monthly for all illegal drugs as well as "bezos"(xanax).
