Yes, they are legal to own in Winnipeg. There are the "consumer" (for lack of a better word) models that are often painted bright colors or are made out of clear plastic that can be found at Wal-Marts and Canadian Tires (to name a few stores), but there are also very realistic models (pistols, semi-auto and full auto rifles, etc.) available from airsoft distributors for the more "serious" tournament player. The latter are considerably more expensive and well-made than the box-store models.

Most airsoft weapons, however, cannot be ordered from the US or brought over the US/Canada border. If you wish to buy an airsoft weapon, you must purchase it from a Canadian distributor.

And, as with any firearm - and not meaning to sound condescending here - please use common sense when handling and/or transporting any airsoft weapon. Any airsoft weapon can still take an unprotected eye out, and most people - most especially the police - wouldn't be very happy with you if you were carrying one of the more realistc models in plain sight. A friend of mine was arrested because he hauled out his M-15 airsoft weapon (a realistic looking, full-auto weapon) from the trunk of his car to show to a friend. They were in a crowded parking lot at the time, and freaked out a LOT of people.
