Bill Gates was one of the founders of Microsoft. He saw the potential in desk top computers and was involved in developing an operating system to make them work. He had worked with an operating system, CP/M, and figured out that most people would want something a whole lot easier to use. From a computer programmers point of view, CP/M, was preferred. For the average user simply wanting to sit down and make a word processor work, the Microsoft system was the best. Bill Gates sold stock to raise money to get started. Then his product took off. He created Microsoft Office. He did not have the best word processor. He did not have the best data base. He did not have the best spreadsheet. He used basically the same set of instructions for all of them. A lawyer, who must have everything picture perfect will use Word Perfect as his word processor. Everyone else will use Microsoft Word. A CPA will use a better spreadsheet. Everyone else will use Microsoft's. Bill Gates created a company for everyone, just like Sam Walton did with Walmart.
