Copper you can. Treat it as you would any other connection, clean the area, surface and hole, get the moisture out and solder a patch over it. Small hole, you can just use solder or you can cut a small piece of pipe in half, clean and flux it and put it over the hole.

Steel pipe, you can braze over the hole, same basic process as soldering, clean and fill with braze.

How reliable is silver solder to spot solder a 5 mil hole in a cold water copper pipe when this method is the only option?

As long as you clean the pipe well and it doesn't have any moisture in it when you solder it, it should be alright to form a patch over the hole with solder. Some is going to go into the hole and form a plug so it should stay. Another option is to clean that section of pipe and split a coupling so that you have 1/3 to1/2 of the diameter. Clean that well and solder the piece over the whole. This will make a much stronger patch.

How can I effectively repair a hole in a copper pipe?

To effectively repair a hole in a copper pipe, you can use a pipe repair clamp or a soldering technique. First, turn off the water supply to the pipe. Clean the area around the hole and apply a pipe repair clamp over the hole, tightening it securely. Alternatively, you can cut out the damaged section of the pipe and solder a new piece in its place. Make sure to follow safety precautions and consult a professional if needed.

Need to repair a hole in copper pipe caused by a bradnailer at the concrete floor dont want to tear up the floor which is now tiled.?

It's always something isn't it? Do you have any gap at all between the hole and the tile? You will need a little bit, no way around it. Clean the area around the hole, flux it, and solder it. As small as the hole has to be, it will form a plug behind the hole and should never cause a problem. You need the gap between the pipe and tile or grout because it will keep the pipe for heating up enough to melt the solder. Could crack the tile also.

how do weld GI pipe to GI pipe?

A GI pipe is welded to a GI pipe by using solder and flux. The pipe is heated up, flux applied, and then solder allowed to flow into the joints to create a secure bond.

Can you repair a puncture hole in a water pipe?

A small nail hole can be fixed with a self tapping screw screwed into the hole. If you can turn the water off and it is a copper pipe you can also solder the screw in place. This would also work for a plastic pipe. You may need to seal it with a silicone gel similar to those products that seal around a bath. Otherwise cut pipe in half and get a compression coupling or flexible pipe repair section from Screwfix.com in the UK.

How do you properly solder a copper pipe?

To properly solder a copper pipe, first clean the pipe and fitting with emery cloth. Apply flux to both the pipe and fitting, then heat the joint with a propane torch. Once the joint is hot enough, touch the solder to the joint and let it flow around the connection. Allow the joint to cool and wipe away any excess solder.

How do you solder lead pipe?

The best approach is using an alloy that contains more lead then tin as the melting point will be lower thus less chance of buring a hole through the lead pipe. Lead wiping is the best approach

Are solder joints mechanically too weak?

Depends on the solder used. If silver solder is used it is actually stronger than the pipe itself.
