Metal showers tend to flex a bit; this could break the bond
of the adhesive .
If you did get the tiles to stick. i feel they would not stay put for long.
My advice is don't do it.
Yes you can just use a better mortar and smaller tiles
Yes, you can tile over drywall in a shower, but it is recommended to use a waterproof backer board instead for better moisture resistance and durability.
Yes.
Shower tile is permanently attached to a base surface by first, cleaning and completely drying the shower base. Then one spreads mortar over the entire surface, press the tiles into the mortar, spacing them 1/4 inch apart. Place spacers between each tile and allow to dry for 12-18 hours. After it's dry, remove the spacers and spread grout over the top, wiping off any excess, and then allowing to dry for another 12-18 hours.

Using a prefab shower pan for tile installation can save time and effort because it is pre-made and ready to install. It also helps ensure a waterproof and leak-proof base for the tiles, reducing the risk of water damage. Additionally, prefab shower pans are designed to be durable and long-lasting, providing a reliable foundation for your tile shower.
With tiles! But on a more serious note, build a frame, plaster board it, get a base tray for the water to fall into and connect it to your waste. Plaster the "boarded wall" then tile it. Then install the shower itself. Seal up then its ready to use.
Possibly because the tile adhesive wasn't totally cured, or the oil base paint wasn't sufficiently mixed. I have used oil over tile adhesive and it worked for me.
you have to remove paint n rough the surface then put some cement slurry n paste the tile by cement
