Absolutely! The maximum speed will be divided into even parts for all users. For example: accessing the internet with 768kbit download and 128kbit upload (which is a standard DSL speed here in Germany) with 2 PCs and one router, both PCs will get half of the maximum, but only when both use the internet at the same time. Inbetween one of the users will be able to get the maximum speed. There are ways to control the ratios the users get (i.e. using a proxy). ==Correction== The ONLY time you will notice any major change is if either PC is using NEAR the maximum connection speed. Visible speed changes will be noticed with some larger file downloads, from low traffic sites. Running speed tests from two networked computers (different speed test sites) has yielded only moderate reductions (< 50%); and these are very bandwidth intensive connections. For normal web Surfing, little to no difference would be noticed. Bandwidth is not, typically, divided; but used as the request received by the modem. Therefore, the bandwidth of the site(s) you are hitting will play a major role in determining which PC gets the faster throughput. Also, the lower the maximum speed available, the greater the difference seen will be. 2 computers sharing a dial-up connection would effectively halt communication on both PCs.

If you download from the internet does it affect the strength of internet signal or wifi signal?

If you are downloading something from the internet, it does not affect the strength of the Wi-Fi signal or other internet signal, since that is solely based on the router's performance or modem's performance, but the speed at which it operates is greatly affected.

When you log on to the internet it sometimes gives a speed of 10 mgbs and sometimes 100 mgbs Why is that?

When your modem connects to the internet the current connection speed is stored in a memory space within the modem. If your device driver for the modem is a little buggy, Windows may sometimes mis-read this figure, and it will round to the nearest base-2 value. If you plug your modem in via USB, then upgrade the driver for your modem. If you connect via Network Switch or Router, then Windows will report the connection to the router, not the speed the modem is connected to the internet.

Why is the Answers.com site so slow?

I personally have never had any problems with the speed of Answers. The issue may be the speed at which you are connected to the internet, or the speed that your computer can process the data received. Your computer can only download as fast as your modem or router can deliver the information.
