How do I sell my domain name to someone who contacted me and is interested in buying it?

Domain name registration cannot be transferred within the first 60 days of ownership. If this is not the case, read on.

If your internet real estate (domain name) is interesting enough for someone to make a spontaneous offer, make sure you know the real value of it. There are several companies who will do professional domain name evaluations for a fee. I don't wish to recommend any one service here so you can search online and read reviews to determine which is the most credible for the best price.

Additionally, if your domain name comes with a list of subscribers, that increases its value.

After you are sure of your negotiating position, work with the requestor to determine a price that makes each of you feel like something was gained. This is a personal bias for I'm not big on win/lose negotiations. :)

You will need to know how to login to your registrar and, once the funds have appeared in an escrow account, or whatever arrangement you've made financially, you can initate the changes. As the domain owner of record, you will be involved with approving this request to change ownership. ICANN does look out for us, thank goodness.

I'm not sure how internet aware you are so I will take a little pain to explain that your domain registrar may be different than your hosting service. I've done some projects with Yahoo Web Services. It took a lot of persistance and 2 months to get the registrar transferred so we could move the domain to a new account.
