Quick answer: Just copy/paste https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/downloads/file/26562/leechblock-0.4.1-fx.xpi into the Firefox address bar, and use that program to block sites.
Long answer: For one, you can block images from loading in YouTube just by going into the Preferences, the Content tab, and where it says "load images automatically" you click "exceptions" and add youtube.com.
If you want to actually block a website, you're gonna need 3rd party software. One option is internet Security software with site-filtering tools. Some new operating systems also have similar tools built in. But the best bet is to get a free Firefox Add-on like FoxFilter, LeechBlock, or BlockSite. FoxFilter, though not Mac OS X compatible, is the most comprehensive, allowing password protection and blocking of specific types of content. LeechBlock is a more simple option, allowing you to block specific sites during specifc times of the day, plus it is also cross-platform and compatible with Firefox 3. My last choice would be BlockSite, which simply blocks sites you specify. I don't think that any of the Firefox add-ons would be hard to get around, since they could be disabled or you could use a different browser. FoxFilter may not be disabled unless you put in a password, I'm not sure. I really don't know about LeechBlock, and FoxFilter specifically says it is too easy to disable to be effective for parental controls.

YouTube would be my best answer. Using Internet Explorer use RealPlayer to download any Commercials you can find.
You can. Internet Explorer comes with Windows, so you don't have to "get" it. And AOL would obviously not block the most common web browser from using their service.
