The USENET was an early non-centralized computer network for the discussion of particular topics and the sharing of files via newsgroups. It was slow, generally interconnecting computers only at night via telephone modems (when long distance call rates were low and most of the computers involved were otherwise idle). It supported only email, downloadable file archives, and newsgroups.

The internet is the global system of interconnected computer networks that use the Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to link billions of devices worldwide. It is a network of networks that consists of millions of private, public, academic, business, and government networks of local to global scope. It is fast with all computers on the internet able to access all of the other computers at any time (within the network security restriction limits).

The USENET content is now available via the internet and most (if not all) USENET sharing between computers is now done using the internet instead of telephone modems, as it is much more efficient.
