Facebook is fairly safe, as long as you keep most to yourself. People will still be able to look you up if they hack, but well, you have done your best and limit as much information as possible from prying eyes.

Facebook is actually a pretty safe website if you don't accept friend requests from people you don't know and you put your account in private.

Remember, the people you add probably know most of the trivial details about you (ie. email, birthday, family) so you shouldn't put too much up to risk it. All personal information is valuable to advertising companies, and they pay to collect them, even through hacking. So if you limit the personal information you have there, it should be safe from non-hackers.
