There is a splice or connector that is a rubber tube the right size held in place with two hose clamps. Some have a metal sleeve over the rubber and under the clamps to give it support. They come different sizes up to 4 inch and with different sizes on each end. 1 1/2" on one end and 2" on the other. Any place that has Plumbing supplies should have these.

Professional ANSWERWhen faced with this condition I solder a brass nipple (pipe) inside the lead pipe having threads exposed then one can use a Female adapter to what ever materials your going to connect to.

This makes for not only a much stronger joint there is no rubber garbage to dry out overtime
