Personally, I think YouTube is a great resource for students in schools making projects for classes. Also, schools can opt in for filters to help filter out videos that students should not see, making it a very safe environment for students of all ages.

Unfortunately, I believe that YouTube should remain blocked in school. While YouTube does house thousands of educational and informative videos, it contains tens of thousands of inappropriate and non educational videos. Students will have more of a temptation to watch Music Videos and Cartoons versus watching informative videos. Since Schools cannot control what is viewed on YouTube, it would make matters worse. Filtering software is term and site specific, so unless Google redesigned YouTube to work with school filters, it would ultimately fail.
