A web antivirus is a combination of 2 modules: an antivirus that protects your computer, and an antivirus that watches your web and how surf on the internet. Typically the 2nd module can be different in having other modules renamed as WEB when in reality they are FIREWALL or ANTISPYARE or COOKIE SHIELD Having said that, a web antivirus is a hoax. The real name is ANTIVIRUS and not WEB ANTIVIRUS. The term WEB is made (added) to allow the user (buyer) to understand that it protects her/him from malicious viruses when Surfing the Internet or checking the email online. In reality an antivirus should protect your computer and not the web. Whether surfing the net and saving a file or coping a file from a DVD/CD data on your computer the job of an antivirus is to detect that the respective file is infected or contains a malicious virus fomality by sending you a warning. The warning would typically emphasis a pop up or a banner. Most corporate antiviruses out there are designed to throw in a pop up when touching (clicin on) a file and not after opening (double clicking on) it A good and substantial antivirus that I recommend is ANTIVIR. It is free and does a better job in detecting viruses compared to the popular (but not efficient) Norton or Mcafee which are pricey and contains so many features that along the way makes the non-computer-literate-user to give up in clicking on/using them. A web antivirus is most likely an antivirus+ that is huge or contains lots of modules that are not necessary to be added near an antivirus. An antivirus is always needed for every system, computer, LAN, WAN, wi-fi, or gateway. A web antivirus is a dream that can become a nightmare while an antivirus is your door lock that you see and open after you wake up from the dream...sometimes is better to close your door manually rather than programming it to lock itself when you close your eyes and when it becomes....priceless.
