Inside your meter you will see actually 4 wires. A set of 2 on the top, and a set of 2 on the bottom. These wires are actually labeled the " Line " side and the " Load " side.

Commonly, the 2 wires on the top are refered to as the " Line " side. This is the 2 wires that come from the transformer supplied from the power company. IMPORTANT!- These wires are always energized. If your power is shut off due to non-payment the " line " side in the meter socket are still energized from the pole or transformer outside. You can be seriously injured or killed if you become in contact with theses wires. Keep in mind, just because the power in your house is off doesn't mean that everything in the meter socket is off also.

The 2 wires on the bottom are referred to as the " Load " side. These are the wires that leave the meter socket and enter the main breaker or the main lugs of your electrical panel inside your house.

NOTE- You have 2 wires that both supply approx. 110volts a peice. The " Bare "or un insulated wire in the center of the meter socket is reffered to as the " Nuetral".

No current passes throught this conductor. This is how you achieve 110 volts in your house. Since the 2 wires both generate approx. 110 volts a peice, then the combination or the 2 equal approx. 220 volts. Every house has the 220v capability. 220v is used for dryers, AC's, some cooking ranges ( stoves), welders, etc...

To simplify it, if you had an electrical meter that measured voltage and you held one lead to one of the wires on the " Line " side, and the other lead to the " Neutral" ( wire in the middle of the meter socket, usually bare . can be copper or aluminum ) that the meter should read approx. 110-120v AC. The same goes for the other wire of the " Line " side 110-120v AC.

Now, if you was to take the same meter and hold one lead to one of the wires on the " Line " side and the other lead to the other wire on the " Line " side, then your meter should read approx 220-240v AC.

Now that the meter socket construction is explained on with the answer to the question.

In the center of the meter socket you will see 4 clips. There is a clip on the end of each wire connection. These clips are where the meter plugs into.

If you look at your meter, you will see 4 stabs on the back side of it.

The meter plugs in and completes the circuit between the " Line ", and " Load " side .

This is how the electric company monitors your electricity use.

The question asked which wires have to be connected to achieve illegal power.

. There are not many ways to safely bypass the meter to make the connection between the Line and Load side because as I stated earlier, the " Line " side is always energized.

I have heard of stories where people have taken copper Plumbing pipeing and hammered it flat with a hammer and inserted it in the stabs to make the connection between the line and load side.

WouldI do this, or advise any one of this method?

HECK NO. If you do, make sure your will is current and you have funeral arrangements made prior to this act of blatent stupidity.

Like I said, the connection between the Line and Load side wires needs to be achieved to restore power to the house .

There are two things I can think of to restore the power in the house a little more safely.

One, of corse is to pay the bill, or get some type of assistance if you are struggling to pay your energy bills. You will spend quite a bit of time googling this but in the long run you still will be alive. There are many programs, payment plans, charities, and church's that either assist you with the payments, of have helpful advice as to the direction to take after your particular situation is analyzed.

The second thing is a gas powered generator.

This is an option as well, but needs to be addressed safey and keep in mind that if you choose to use a generator it is best to keep it outside so that the fumes do not accumulate in your house and kill you.

In closing, I hope this gives the person that wrote this question a little more knowledge of how the power company monitors, and bills you for your energy consumption.

I am in no way encouraging anyone to steal power. This is extremly dangerous and should not be attempted by anyoneone without an electrical background.

Hopefully by reading this, I saved someones life by discouraging them from toying around in the meter socket.

Please, make plans with the power company or get a generator so that your family will see you another day.

I will check this blog again in a day or 2. If I can be oy assistance with the generatorr idea then ask and we can exchange emails or numbers.

Thank you. Good Luck to you and please be careful!

Can you attach a single wire of an exterior fixture to a double wire that is in the electric box?

In a box it is common practice to join two black wires, two white wires and two ground wires, for example, to extend the circuit to another location. Provided you don't overload the circuit it is okay to put 3-wires into the comparable wirenuts for your external light. There are some added caveats including not exceeding the number of wires designed for the box (usually 4); and outside circuits normally require a GFCI circuit for safety.

In the electrical box where is the common wire connection?

where all the white wires join up.

How big should the round pen be for join up and could a portable electric fence work for join-up?

A round pen with a diameter between 50-60 feet is typically recommended for join-up exercises. For safety reasons and optimal results, it is not recommended to use a portable electric fence for join-up. A solid round pen or enclosed area with good footing is ideal to establish trust and communication with the horse during join-up.

How do you fit the speaker cables to the head unit on a Clio?

Assuming there is 8 wires in existing Renault wiring iso speaker plug at back of radio, the two outer wires at each end of plug are for left rear and right rear speakers, tap into these wires i.e. strip the insulation back a couple of inches from the plug and join new speaker wires onto the stripped wires. If only 4 wires in existing Renault wiring iso speaker plug then buy iso speaker plug from auto factor and join existing Renault wiring on speaker plug onto new cable and join new speaker cables (the ones you are fitting) onto the outside wires at each end of the new iso plug.
