YouTube started as a simple video sharing site that evolved into a stream of funny viral videos; however, in the last couple years, YouTube is making a serious push to go after TV ad revenue.

The importance of using YouTube comes down to 2 very crucial aspects that make it unique. First it's the ultimate niche market where as we know, the internet is already where people go to indulge in content that is otherwise unavailable. Now YouTube is a source for that information in a video format.

The next aspect, and the more important of the 2 is YouTube is becoming a video version of Google. If I need to fix something on my car, my computer, or anything else, I will YouTube it instead of Googling it to get a detailed guide with video showing exactly how something needs to be done.

YouTube is only going to continue its growth over the next 10 years while it gives TV a run for its money with all the money being dumped into the current model of YouTube where channels with high quality, relevant, entertaining, in depth, and everything else you can think of in their inevitable march towards entertainment and informational supremacy vs television.

All of what I mentioned above is why I have a job, and run a channel as my full income source.
