it wasn't a discovery it was a invention and it was important because it made communication a lot shorter. If it wasn't invented somethings we have today that use sound waves to transfer a voice wouldn't had been invented or it would be a lot different.

If the telephone had never been invented consider the following:

You would still be sending a U.S. Postal message just to communicate with someone, or visiting.

You would have no instant control of nearly every aspect of your life that you do not even consider today.

You would not have been able to ask ANY questions such as you have because there would be no internet (Internet started with dial up modems.
