The Saxons employed various tactics to attack castles, primarily focusing on siege warfare. They would surround the castle to cut off supplies and reinforcements, often using siege engines like battering rams and trebuchets to breach walls. Additionally, they utilized tactics such as undermining walls, creating distractions, or launching surprise assaults during times of weakness. Overall, their strategies combined physical force with psychological pressure to weaken the defenders’ resolve.

The construction of Norman castles significantly impacted the Saxons by solidifying Norman control over England after the 1066 conquest. These castles served as military strongholds, reinforcing the power of the Norman lords and instilling fear among the local Saxon population. They disrupted traditional Saxon governance and land use, leading to social and economic upheaval as Normans often displaced Saxons from their lands. Ultimately, the presence of these fortifications marked a shift in power dynamics, contributing to the gradual assimilation of Saxon culture into Norman feudal society.
yes, motte and bailey castles were very easy to attack as they were made out of wood and could burn very easily. whereas if you were talking about stone keep castles which were pretty much like motte and bailey castles then it would take time to burn as they were made out of stone.
