It depends on size. In the USA they use a small size for a minimum lake. In Canada we prefer to use 3 sq/km as a minimum. When that number is used Ontario has about 4,000 lakes and Canada between 30,000 and 40,000. It gets tricky in some places like Manitoba because many lakes are part of rivers flowing to Hudson Bay. It is all about definition.
