Lake Victoria is usually considered the third largest lake in the world. The largest is the Caspian Sea (Asia) at 143,250 square miles, 371,000 sq km. Second is Lake Superior (North America), 31,000 sq miles, 82,414 sq km. Third is Lake Victoria (Central Africa), 26,000 sq miles, 69,485 sq km. However, some sources consider Lake Huron and Lake Michigan as a single lake, which would make it second on the list at 45,410 sq miles, 117, 611 sq km. That would drop Victoria to fourth.
