The Red Sea is part of the territorial waters of all of the countries that border it, roughly being divided along the central line of the sea.'

The countries that border the Red Sea are:

Eastern shore:

o Saudi Arabia

o Yemen

Northern shore:

o Egypt

o Israel*

o Jordan*

Southern shore:

o Djibouti

o Eritrea

o Somalia*

Western shore:

o Egypt

o Eritrea

o Sudan

*The countries with a star do not border the Red Sea per se. Israel and Jordan have outlets on the Gulf of Aqabah, which is an arm of the Red Sea, but not the Red Sea itself. Somalia has its northern coastline on the Gulf of Aden, which is separated from the Red Sea by the Bab el-Mandab or the Mandeb Strait. Many people, however, consider the Gulf of Aden to be an arm of the Red Sea just like the Gulf of Aqaba.
