Australia's main river is the Murray River.

Running for a length of about 2375km, the Murray River forms most of the border between Victoria and New South Wales, and forms part of the Murray-Darling System which irrigates the entire southeastern quadrant of the continent.

The major river system in Australia is the Murray-Darling river system. The Murray-Darling basin takes in about one-seventh of the area of the continent, and empties into the Great Southern ocean just beyond Lake Alexandrina in South Australia.

The Murray River itself begins high in the Australian Alps in Australia's southeast, while the Darling begins in western Queensland.
